AltTox Forum Tips

Registration:

• Registration is not necessary for reading forum postings, but is required for posting a message (either responding to someone else’s message or starting a new message thread)
• An AltTox Administrator must register you. Please email info@alttox.org with the following:
  • Full Name
  • Email Address
  • Affiliation
  • Preferred username
• The Administrator will assign a temporary password. Once you receive your information from the Administrator, log in and change your password to one only you know

Logging In:

• Registered users must be logged in before being able to post messages
• To log in, enter your username and password towards the top of the homepage of the AltTox Forum
• Users can log in for various session lengths or, when using their own computers, may prefer to be logged in "permanently" so that they will automatically be logged in when returning to the forum

Posting a new message thread:

• To start your own message thread, select "New Topic"
• Add a descriptive subject line so that other readers will understand the content of your comment
• Type your message
  • Brief messages can be composed directly in the Forum but users may find it more convenient to compose longer messages in a word processing program (e.g. Microsoft Word or Notepad) and then cut and paste the text into the message body field
• Click "Preview" to review your message prior to submitting it, and then click "Submit"

Posting a response to an existing comment:

• To respond to existing message threads, click on the appropriate title, and select the "Reply" button
• Post your comment

Uploading attachments:

• While in the screen to compose your message, click the "+" next to "Additional Options..." (below the message body field)
• Click the "Browse" button and locate the file you want to upload
• Make sure the file is a .doc, .gif, .jpg, .mpg, .pdf, .ppt, .png, .txt or .zip
• When your message is ready, click "Post"

Other options:

• To receive e-mail notifications of new topics ONLY in the forum, select the "Alerts" button
• To receive notifications of new topics AND replies in the forum, select the "All Alerts" button
• To receive notifications of replies to specific topics within the forum, you must be within the message when you hit the "Alerts" button
• Browse other forum buttons for additional functions
